It is a great pleasure for me to come to beautiful Jakarta as China’s new Ambassador to ASEAN.

In the eyes of Chinese people, Southeast Asian countries are brimming with enthusiasm and bursting with colorful wonders. Here, one can find time-honored history, diverse culture, kind people and vibrant economy. The profound civilization heritage has nurtured booming vitality, which has been driving the building of the ASEAN community and has led East Asia in fostering an open and inclusive regional cooperation structure with ASEAN at the center. ASEAN Member States, with its independence, solidarity and strength, have stood strong in maintaining the peace and stability, development and prosperity of the region and the world, and are becoming important forces in the multi-polar world.

China and ASEAN Member States, as neighbors living next door, have a long history of friendly interaction. Our mutual understanding and support were there throughout the fight for national independence and the process of improving people’s livelihood, leaving behind many touching tales. Since the establishment of dialogue relations in 1991, China and ASEAN, seizing the opportunities of the times, focusing on common development, and overcoming global challenges together, have become each other’s biggest trading partner, most dynamic cooperation partner and most substantial strategic partner. In November 2021, President Xi Jinping and leaders of ASEAN Member States jointly announced the establishment of a China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, charting the course and broadening space of development for further consolidating the two sides’ political trust and deepening their mutually beneficial cooperation in the new era.

The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) pointed out that, acting on the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness and the policy of forging friendships and partnerships with its neighbors, China will strive to enhance friendly ties, mutual trust, and converging interests with its neighboring countries. ASEAN, as always, will be the priority in China’s neighborhood diplomacy. At present, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, the Chinese people are working together, moving forward with firm determination, and steadily embarking on a new journey to build a modern socialist country in all respects. This will certainly bring new opportunities for China and ASEAN to deepen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. New momentum will be injected and new prospects will be achieved. 

At this critical juncture of building on the past achievements and pursuing new progress, I am deeply honored to be appointed as China’s new Ambassador to ASEAN and I sure feel a lot of responsibilities awaits. I would like to work with my ASEAN colleagues and friends from all walks of life to continue our friendship and enhance cooperation, steadily promote the implementation of the important consensus reached by our leaders, and write a new chapter for the joint building of a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home, and the building of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
