On August 12, 2026, H.E. Wang Qing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to ASEAN, visited the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre) and exchanged views with Mr. Lee Yam Ming, Executive Director of the AHA Centre, on China-ASEAN cooperation in the field of disaster management.

Ambassador Wang reviewed the fruitful achievements made in China and AHA Centre cooperation in recent years, commended the AHA Centre for its important role in regional disaster prevention and mitigation and in advancing China-ASEAN cooperation on disaster management, and stated that China will uphold the vision of a community with a shared future for humanity, actively implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI), faithfully act on the consensus reached by the leaders of China and ASEAN Member States, and firmly support Southeast Asian nations in disaster prevention and mitigation, so as to ensure that the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership delivers more tangible benefits to the people of both sides.

Mr. Lee welcomed Ambassador Wang’s visit and expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for its long-standing active support to ASEAN in disaster prevention and mitigation. Lee briefed on the progress of cooperation projects with China, including the reconstruction of prefabricated and permanent schools in the earthquake-stricken areas of Myanmar and the capacity enhancement of disaster management, and expressed the hope for deepening practical cooperation further with China in the field of disaster management.
