On 22 June 2026, the Jakarta Forum in Commemoration of the 5th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was held at the ASEAN Secretariat under the theme “Towards A More Robust and Productive ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to the Greater Benefit of the Region and the World”. More than 150 participants attended the event, including H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the UN ESCAP, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, H.E. Hassan Wirajuda, former Foreign Minister of Indonesia, H.E. Ong Keng Yong, former Secretary-General of ASEAN, diplomatic envoys to ASEAN and representatives from various sectors in the region.

Ambassador Wang Qing reviewed the achievements of China-ASEAN cooperation and expressed China’s readiness to promote strategic synergy between the four global initiatives (the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative) and ASEAN’s visions and strategic plans, and continue working with ASEAN to build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home. Ambassador Wang also reaffirmed China’s commitment to jointly upholding multilateralism, safeguarding regional peace and stability, promoting openness and cooperation, facilitating empowerment through innovation and green development, and building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.

The delegates had in-depth exchanges and interactions centering on three topics, namely “Strengthen Multilateralism and Jointly Uphold the International Order Based on International Law”, “Unlock Cooperation Potentials and Jointly Promote Regional Prosperity and Sustainable Development”, and “Foster Deeper Cultural Understanding and Cooperation and Jointly Demonstrate the Value of Cultural Exchanges”. It was underscored that under the current circumstances, ASEAN-China relations have gone beyond the regional context and taken on global significance. The two sides should strengthen strategic synergy, complement each others’ strengths, jointly uphold international fairness and justice, deepen practical cooperation, and enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to make greater contributions to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.

During the forum, a special report entitled The Indispensability of ASEAN-China Relations: Retrospect and Outlook, co-authored by scholars from China and ASEAN countries, was launched.
