On 16 April 2026, Ambassador Wang Qing met with H.E. Dato’ Zanariah Zainal Abidin, Director General of ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia. The two sides had in-depth exchange of views and reached extensive consensus on the development of China-ASEAN relations and East Asia cooperation this year.

Ambassador Wang stressed the significance of this year as it marks the 5th anniversary of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and indicated China’s readiness to work with ASEAN countries to implement the important consensus reached by leaders, synergize strategies and deepen cooperation across the board to strive for fresh progress in China-ASEAN partnership. Ambassador Wang also underlined China’s readiness to work with ASEAN in ensuring the overall direction of East Asia cooperation to bring more benefits to the countries and peoples in the region. Ambassador Wang expressed hope for Malaysia to continue playing its important role as the country coordinator for ASEAN-China relations towards that end.
Director General Zanariah commended ASEAN-China partnership as most dynamic and productive. She expressed Malaysia’s readiness to continue playing an active role of coordination, and further strengthen communication and coordination with China to jointly promote ASEAN-China relations and move forward East Asia cooperation for greater peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region.
