On 10 February, H.E. Wang Qing, Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN attended a Chinese New Year reception co-hosted in Jakarta by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office and the South China Morning Post, where he delivered remarks. The reception was graced by Mr. C Y Leung, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Dr. Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan, Deputy Secretary for Justice of the HKSAR and representatives from ASEAN various sectors.

In his remarks, Ambassador Wang Qing noted that the China–ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership continues to grow stronger and yield tangible results, particularly in economic and trade cooperation, with broad and promising prospects for the future. He also emphasized that Hong kong plays an important and unique role in it. China, he said, is ready to work with ASEAN countries as trusted friends and partners in common development, so as to ensure steady progress and contribute greater impetus to peace and development in the region and beyond.

Ambassador Wang Qing extended festival greetings, joined guests in a toast and took part in the traditional eye-dotting ceremony for the lion dance. Participants enjoyed the festive performance and exchanged New Year greetings, celebrating together the arrival of the Year of the Horse.
