
On November 12, 2025, the signing ceremony for the cash assistance agreement between the government of the People's Republic of China and the AHA Centre was held at the ASEAN Secretariat. H.E. Hou Yanqi, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, and Permanent Representatives of ASEAN Member States attended the event.
Ambassador Hou signed the assistance agreement on behalf of the Chinese government and stated that, following the strong earthquake in Myanmar, President Xi Jinping immediately extended condolences to the leader of Myanmar. The Chinese government provided emergency humanitarian assistance to Myanmar and China was the country that dispatched the largest number of rescue teams and personnel. In response to the request of ASEAN, the Chinese government is providing new cash assistance to support the reconstruction of schools in the disaster-affected areas of Myanmar, and to help the children to resume their education at the earliest opportunity, This reflects China’s resolve to make tangible effort to advance the Global Development Initiative, and support ASEAN in strengthening disaster prevention and management, contributing to the building of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, and Ambassador Aung Myo Myint, Permanent Representative of Myanmar to ASEAN, expressed deep appreciation for China's assistance to Myanmar and its steadfast support for ASEAN. They affirmed their commitment to further strengthening all-round cooperation between ASEAN and China.
