Ambassador Hou Yanqi paid a farewell call on H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN on November 12, 2025. 

Ambassador Hou reviewed the positive progress in ASEAN-China relations over the past three years. She said that thanks to the strategic guidance and personal commitment of the leaders of both sides, the ASEAN-China relationship has become the most comprehensive, substantive and pioneering among ASEAN’s relations with its partners.  

Ambassador Hou elaborated that the 15th Five-Year Plan period will be a critical stage for China to basically realize socialist modernization. China will firmly pursue high-quality development and expand high-standard opening up. China stands ready to enhance alignment of development strategies with ASEAN, and provide new opportunities for common prosperity of regional countries as making new progress in Chinese modernization. 

Dr. Kao Kim Hourn appreciated Ambassador Hou’s contributions to advancing ASEAN-China relations. He spoke highly of the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative, looked forward to greater achievements in China’s development under the guidance of the 15th Five-Year Plan. He said ASEAN is ready to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with China, so as to achieve more fruitful results and deliver greater benefits to the people of both sides. 

Dr. Kao Kim Hourn hosted a farewell dinner for Ambassador Hou that evening.
