From 23 to 29 April 2025, the delegation of the ASEAN-China Joint Cooperation Committee visited Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Beijing.

During the visit in Beijing, the delegation paid courtesy calls on H.E. Sun Weidong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Xiong Jijun, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, and H.E. Sun Shuxian, Vice Minister of Natural Resources and Administrator of the State Oceanic Administration.

 The Chinese side briefed on the important achievements and significance of President Xi Jinping's recent visits to three Southeast Asian countries, and expounded on the spirit of the Central Conference on Work Related to Neighboring Countries and China's principles in neighborhood diplomacy. It was emphasized that China will continue to deepen practical cooperation in various fields and work to build a closer ASEAN-China community with a shared future. It was hoped that the advantages of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area should be fully leveraged to create new growth engines for ASEAN-China cooperation. 

The Chinese side elaborated on its policy and position on the U.S. abuse of tariffs and emphasized that China is ready to strengthen solidarity and coordination with ASEAN, and jointly safeguard an open, inclusive and cooperative development environment as well as international fairness and justice, injecting greater stability and certainty into the region and the world.

ASEAN delegation members appreciated China's continued efforts in developing its relations with ASEAN based on equality, mutual respect, mutual trust and mutual benefit. They expressed desire for learning from China's experiences and sharing the development opportunities brought by Chinese modernization. It was emphasized that unilateral tariffs have put pressure on the region, and the close economic and trade ties between ASEAN and China formed the foundation to jointly tackle the challenge. ASEAN will continue to promote the development of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area 3.0, ensure the high-quality implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, and advance economic resilience and sustainable development by promoting regional economic integration.

While visiting Hong Kong, the delegation met with Mr. Paul LAM, Acting Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the Honourable Andrew LEUNG Kwan-yuen, President of the Legislative Council, and other senior officials. The delegation also held discussions with representatives from trade, finance, investment, and transportation departments. The HKSAR government stated that ASEAN is a priority for its efforts to develop partnerships and expand cooperation. Hong Kong is willing to further deepen practical cooperation with ASEAN in various fields, leverage the Greater Bay Area to better serve as a bridge between the Chinese mainland and ASEAN, and contribute more to stabilizing supply chains and promoting regional prosperity. The delegation witnessed Hong Kong’s development achievements and highly praised the historic success of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy in HKSAR. They noted the broad prospects and immense potentials of the relations between ASEAN and Hong Kong, and expressed willingness to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, digital economy, green transition, financial technology, and people-to-people exchanges. They also expressed their support in Hong Kong’s accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

In Shenzhen, the delegation visited high-tech enterprises including Huawei, SenseTime, BYD, and Mindray.

The ASEAN-China Joint Cooperation Committee is composed of permanent representatives of ASEAN member states to ASEAN, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, and Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to ASEAN. It is an important mechanism for dialogue and cooperation between ASEAN and China.
