Ambassador Hou Yanqi Delivered Video Remarks at the Award Ceremony of the 4th ASEAN-China Short Video Contest on the Theme of Friendship and Cooperation

On March 26, the Award Ceremony of the 4th ASEAN-China Short Video Contest on the Theme of Friendship and Cooperation was successfully held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. H.E. Hou Yanqi, Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN, delivered her video messages of warm congratulations to the contest on its great success.

Ambassador Hou highly praisedthat this year's contest has produced a lot of excellent pieces, with diversified types of entries and themesfull of variety.She said that through these short videos, we could see the positive outcomes that China-ASEAN friendly and practical cooperation brought to the lives of ordinary people, and feel the common aspirations and efforts of the people to build a peaceful, tranquil, prosperous, beautiful and friendly homeland. To promote the building of a China-ASEAN community with a shared future is constantly taking root in people's hearts.President Xi Jinpingprofoundly pointed out that civilizations had become richer and more colorful with exchanges and mutual learning.The year 2024 is the ASEAN-China Year of People-to-people Exchanges.The two sides are working together to implement the Global Civilization Initiative and further create a diverse and interactive cultural integration pattern by carrying out a variety of people-to-people and cultural exchange activities to jointly promote China-ASEANfriendship and the progress of civilization.

Ambassador Hou expressed that the Short Video Contest is an important event for people-to-people exchanges. Short videos, as they are short, fast and down-to-earth, have shown emerging power on social media platforms and are increasingly popular among the general public. The Short Video Contest has been held for 4 consecutive years, with increasing attention and wider coverage. It has become a platform for heart-to-heart exchange between the people in this region, as well as a record and testimony of friendly cooperation between China and ASEAN.

Ambassador Hou stressed that being committed to deepening political mutual trust and advancing practical cooperation, China and ASEAN countries have become an important force in maintaining regional stability and prosperity. The youth is the future of China-ASEAN relations and the most dynamic, creative and communicative group in China-ASEAN cooperation. She encouraged young people to take an active part in the development of China-ASEAN relations, help to strengthen the bond among the two billion Chinese and ASEAN people with the spark of youth exchanges and interactions, and in their own way make unremitting contributions and provide inexhaustible impetus for the continuous development of China-ASEAN relations.

The 4th ASEAN-China Short Video Contest on the Theme of Friendship and Cooperation was co-organized by the Chinese Mission to ASEAN, the Permanent Mission of Myanmar to ASEAN, the ASEAN Secretariat, China International Communications Group (CICG), Chinese National Radio and Television Administration, and the Publicity Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Around 200 delegates attended the Award Ceremony, including representatives of  the contest organizers, ambassadors or representatives from ASEAN countries, and vloggers etc. H.E. Ekkaphab Panthavong, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN, and H.E. Ambassador Aung Myo Mint, Permanent Representative of Myanmar, the country coordinator for ASEAN-China relations to ASEAN, also delivered video remarks.

Since the Contest was launched in September 2023, a total of 21,243 videos have been collected, and 36 of the videos have won the awards. The Chinese Mission to ASEAN will display theawardeesvideos on its official website, WeChataccount, Facebook homepage and other platformsin the following days.
