On February 13, 2025, the 31st ASEAN-China Senior Officials' Consultation was held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) Leader of Malaysia Dato' Sri Amran Mohamed Zin co-chaired the consultation. Senior officials or representatives from other ASEAN countries and Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN attended the consultation, and Timor-Leste participated in the consultation as an ASEAN observer.
Sun Weidong stressed that the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was successfully convened last year, and the Chinese modernization drive has made great strides forward. Under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and leaders of ASEAN countries, the building of a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home has made positive progress, and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides has gained strong momentum of development. Under the new circumstances, China is ready to work with ASEAN to create more highlights in the development of Free Trade Area 3.0, digital transformation, industrial and supply chains, green development, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and other fields, promote mutual facilitation and complementarity as well as greater synergy and multiplier effect between high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, the three global initiatives and the building of the ASEAN Community, and build an even closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
ASEAN countries highly appreciate the achievements of Chinese modernization and China's important role as an engine in the global economy, and commend China's support for ASEAN centrality and the building of the ASEAN Community. ASEAN countries stressed that ASEAN-China cooperation has set an example for regional cooperation and brought benefits to the people of the region. ASEAN countries expressed the willingness to deepen practical cooperation in various fields with China, consolidate "hard connectivity", strengthen "soft connectivity", promote regional integration, combat transnational crimes such as online gambling and telecom fraud, and jointly safeguard regional peace, stability, prosperity and development.
During the consultation, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong also met respectively with ASEAN SOM leaders of some countries, and they exchanged views on issues of common interest and concern.
