China-Egypt Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue Held in Beijing

On December 13, 2024, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi chaired the China-Egypt foreign ministers' strategic dialogue with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Expatriates Badr Abdel Aaty in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty's visit coincides with a critical moment when international and regional situations are undergoing complex changes. The Gaza conflict continues to drag on, the situation in Syria has taken a sudden change, the region remains in turmoil, and global challenges are emerging one after another. China and Egypt, both as important members of the Global South, stay independent, pursue development and revitalization, and uphold fairness and justice. China is ready to strengthen strategic communication and cooperation with Egypt, and jointly contribute to safeguarding regional peace and stability and promoting global development.

Wang Yi said that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, China and Egypt have further carried forward the traditional friendship and deepened mutually beneficial cooperation. In May this year, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of the Belt and Road Cooperation Plan, injecting new momentum into the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership toward the next "golden decade". China appreciates Egypt's firm commitment to the one-China principle, supports Egypt in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security and development interests, and opposes interference in Egypt's internal affairs by any force under any pretext. China is ready to work with Egypt to deliver on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, continuously pushing bilateral relations toward the higher goal of building a China-Egypt community with a shared future in the new era.

Badr Abdel Aaty said, thanks to the mutual trust, friendship, and personal guidance of the two heads of state, Egypt-China relations have made significant progress, with increasingly close ties across various fields. Egypt is the first Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China and always firmly pursues the one-China policy and supports China's reunification. The Egyptian side cherishes the traditional friendship between the two countries and the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China, supports China's just position and legitimate propositions, and opposes interference in China's internal affairs under the pretext of human rights. Egypt looks forward to advancing the Belt and Road cooperation with China and deepening practical cooperation in various fields. He thanked China for its support and assistance to Egypt's economic and social development and welcomed more Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Egypt. Egypt highly appreciates and supports the three global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping, speaks highly of China's consistent commitment to upholding justice in the international arena, and is willing to work together to improve global governance and promote a more just and equitable international order.

The two sides agreed to tap cooperation potential, broaden cooperation areas and open up new prospects for cooperation. They agreed to give full play to the role of the intergovernmental cooperation committee mechanism, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and create new growth poles of cooperation in new energy, aviation and aerospace, electric vehicles, 5G construction, agricultural technology, artificial intelligence, digital economy and other emerging fields, to contribute to Egypt's sustainable development. The two sides will take the China-Egypt Year of Partnership as a new starting point to deepen people-to-people exchanges and enhance people-to-people ties.

The two sides stressed the readiness to deepen strategic communication, take the "greater BRICS cooperation" to a new level, build the BRICS mechanism into the most important cooperation platform for countries in the Global South, and make the BRICS voice louder in the international community. The two sides will continue to strengthen communication and coordination within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
