On October 24, the Chinese Mission to ASEAN held a media and think tank salon with the theme of “China-ASEAN Cooperation:Together for a Golden Era”. Ambassador Hou Yanqi invited Ambassador Xu Bu, former President of the China Institute of International Studies, to join in.
Ambassador Hou briefed on the outcomes of the Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation in Vientiane which Chinese Premier Li Qiang just attended and she stressed that China is always committed to supporting ASEAN centrality and will push forward the implementation of the consensus reached by the leaders and build a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future. Ambassador Xu briefed on the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and China's foreign policy on its neighborhood. He expressed that Chinese modernization will bring great opportunities to all countries including the ASEAN members. Facing the complex and volatile international and regional situation, all parties concerned should focus on development and cooperation, adhere to multilateralism, oppose bloc confrontation and unilateralism, and jointly safeguard the peaceful development for all.
Journalists and scholars representing 20 plus Chinese and foreign media and think tanks joined the event and enjoyed in-depth exchanges of views, showing their optimistic perspectives on China's economic development. They also discussed the impact on the region by China-US relations and issues such as Myanmar. A number of media outlets published their reports afterwards.
