On 18 and 19 June 2024, on the occasion of the ASEAN-China Future Relations Forum held in Jakarta, Indonesia, the Chinese Mission to ASEAN organized a closed-door youth dialogue and an interface between H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN and youth representatives of the Forum. The events were attended by H.E. Hou Yanqi, the Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN and recipients of the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship, winners of the ASEAN-China “Friendship and Cooperation” Short Video Competition, winners of ASEAN-China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, winners of Youth Voice for ASEAN-China Cooperation Writing Competition, as well as youth representatives from think tanks, universities, media of China and ASEAN countries. Young diplomats from the Chinese Mission and missions of ASEAN member states to ASEAN were also present at the events.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao and Ambassador Hou said that both China and ASEAN attach great importance to young people. The future of ASEAN-China relations lies in young people and the main goal of ASEAN-China cooperation is to bring tangible benefits to more than 2 billion people including youth of both sides. Young people should fully understand the high-level ASEAN-China relations and its leading role in East Asia cooperation, and actively participate in and promote ASEAN-China cooperation in various fields. Secretary-General Dr. Kao proposed that young people should adhere to "6P" principle in their growth and progress, namely Purpose, Passion, Professionalism, Participation, Perseverance and Positive attitude.

The youth representatives spoke highly of the achievements of ASEAN-China relations, introduced their participation in ASEAN-China practical cooperation, and actively put forward suggestions for the ASEAN-China future relations. They said that China and ASEAN should continue to follow the successful experience, including, firmly upholding multilateralism and regionalism and the concept of openness and inclusiveness, and consistently enhancing strategic mutual trust. China and ASEAN should also actively look to the future, expand cooperation in emerging fields, strengthen exchanges and interactions at all levels and in all areas. They also expressed their willingness to actively participate in all areas of ASEAN-China cooperation to further promote the ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
