On September 14, the Launch Ceremony of the 2023 ASEAN-China Short Video Contest on the Theme of Friendship and Cooperation was held online. Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Hou Yanqi, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN Ekkaphab Phanthavong, Permanent Representative of Myanmar to ASEAN Aung Myo Myint, Vice President of China International Communications Group (CICG) Lu Cairong, Director-General of the International Cooperation Department of the Chinese National Radio and Television Administration Yan Chengsheng, Director of the Information Office of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Liu Kun and representatives of the previous contest awardees were present and made their remarks. Permanent representatives and diplomats of ASEAN countries to ASEAN, and representatives of the relevant supporting agencies of the contest joined the event and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of CICG and Director of China Center for International Communication Development Chen Shi presided over.
In addressing the Contest, Ambassador Hou noted that, the year 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s proposal of building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future. Premier Li Qiang, while attending the 26th China-ASEAN Summit very recently, pointed out that over the past 10 years, China and ASEAN have forged ahead hand in hand and contributed to each other’s successes, embarking on a right path featuring longstanding good-neighborliness and shared progress and prosperity. Premier Li Qiang said that China and ASEAN countries enjoy geographical proximity and close affinity. We are good neighbors, good brothers and good partners, and will remain so no matter what. Whatever storm may come, as long as we keep to the right path, China-ASEAN cooperation will be as firm as ever and press ahead against all odds. Upholding unity for strength and the spirit of win-win cooperation, China will work with ASEAN countries to build a peaceful, safe & secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home that we share together.
Ambassador Hou said that the year 2024 is the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges, and this Contest is one of the best examples of strengthening people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between our two sides. It is expected that the contestants could select, shoot, record, and share stories of the fruitful achievements from China-ASEAN mutually beneficial cooperation and joint development, stories of the splendid wonder from China-ASEAN cultural exchange and mutual learning, stories of the touching moments from China-ASEAN people-to-people bond and more.
Ambassador Hou said that China and ASEAN are continuing to work hand in hand, and the stories of China-ASEAN friendship happens every moment. The new media era has given us new means, new platforms, and new ways of expression. It is hoped that more people will make full use of the new media to become promoters, recorders and messengers of China-ASEAN friendship. Ambassador Hou also wished the Contest a complete success.
In their remarks, guests and representatives of past winners said that the Short Video Contest has become a powerful proof of the richness and vitality of China-ASEAN relations, fully demonstrating the enthusiasm of the people of the two sides to actively support the friendship and cooperation between China and ASEAN. At present, China-ASEAN relations are enjoying steady development, with close ties and exchanges in various fields and fruitful cooperation, and the two sides are making joint efforts towards the goal of building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future. All parties will strongly support this Contest, produce more excellent short videos, tell the story of China-ASEAN friendship, make greater contribution to the promotion of China-ASEAN people-to-people and cultural exchanges, deepen mutual understanding and affinity between people of the two sides, and inject more vitality into the development of China-ASEAN relations.
2023 ASEAN-China Short Video Contest on the Theme of Friendship and Cooperation, with the theme of “Connection for a Better Future”, is jointly organized by the Chinese Mission to ASEAN, the ASEAN Secretariat, the Permanent Mission of Myanmar to ASEAN, the Chinese National Radio and Television Administration, the China International Communications Group, the Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Information Office of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
