Wang Yi: China's Internal Affairs Brook No External Interference
2023-07-19 16:02

On July 14, 2023 local time, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi attended the 13th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Jakarta. He stressed that the Taiwan question is an internal affair of China and brooks no external interference, refuting the erroneous allegation made by certain countries that China is trying to unilaterally change the status quo across the Taiwan Strait.

Wang Yi said that Taiwan is part of China's territory. This is a historical fact, an international consensus, and also the true status quo across the Taiwan Strait. Those seeking to change the status quo are precisely Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the external forces that support and connive at the DPP's pursuit of "Taiwan independence". Cross-Strait peace and "Taiwan independence" are as irreconcilable as water and fire, and "Taiwan independence" acts are the most disruptive element for cross-Strait peace. To truly maintain cross-Strait peace, it is essential to resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence". China stands ready to pursue peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and utmost efforts, but will never waver in its resolve and will to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
